National Summit
on Africa

ABOA coordinated media relations, registration logistics, and development of collateral materials for the National Summit on Africa’s Southeast Regional Summit.

The Summit is a two-year campaign to sponsor national dialogue focusing on increasing awareness of events on the continent, marshaling support among Africa-focused organizations, and developing a national plan of action for U.S. foreign policy for government and the business community. The Atlanta Summit was the first in a series, including New York City, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Houston, culminating in National Summit in Washington, DC.

ABOA contributed years of conference experience, to help with the overall approach and strategy to planning and conducting the Summit. The agency handled registration for the Summit, including creation and distribution of a registration packet; requests for information on the Regional Summit by participants, attendees, and media; creation and maintenance of a registration database; and on-site registration strategy and management.

Media relations for the Summit included design and development of all media kit materials; initiated and maintained relations with local, regional, national, and international media; coordinated interviews, media briefings and press conferences with media, including CNN and BBC; scheduled a regional media tour for Summit officials to New Orleans, Jackson, Miami, Birmingham, Columbia, and St. Petersburg; and managed on-site media relations via a media center.
